MEMBER of the State Administration Council, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo addressed a coordination meeting 1/2024 of the Water Resources Assessment Committee on the current work implementations and further strategies of the committee yesterday.

Speaking at the meeting, the Union minister, who is also Chairman of committee, stressed the vital role of water management in Myanmar as the country usually encounters the water resource issues due to its geography and weather condition despite being rich in water resources, the duties of relevant ministries and organizations to make arrangements for the effective use of water resources to promote the socioeconomic well-being of the people through systematic water irrigation, hydropower generation, water transportation and preventive measures on water-related natural disasters.

He also added that the relevant ministries, organizations and region/state governments should cooperate with the experts to implement the water related development programmes ensuring the economic growth of the country and Sustainable Development Goals of the UN based on the data collected by the Water Resources Assessment Committee.

Therefore, all should make collaborate efforts for the sustainable interest of the country and the public.

Then, he heard reports on current work plans of the committee, data collection and transfer, review on collected-data and other matters.

The State Administration Council organized the Water Resources Assessment Committee on 7 March 2022 with notification No 43/2022 to measure the water current from the main stream of Ayeyawady, Chindwin, Sittoung and Thanlwin rivers to the sea and access the water resources including the water current.
