MYANMAR authorities deported 17 foreign nationals: 16 from Malaysia and one from Algeria, who committed telecom fraud and criminal operations, including online scams and illegal gambling.

The deportation was conducted in coordination with relevant embassies and Thai immigration through the Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge II in Myawady.

The individuals unlawfully entered Myanmar through border routes and operated in the Shwe Kokko-KK Park area of Kayin State. From 30 January to 29 April 2025, Myanmar has identified 9,043 illegal foreign entrants, deporting 7,585 through Thailand, with 1,458 more pending transfer.

Officials reiterated Myanmar’s commitment to dismantling online scam centres and cooperating internationally to return foreign victims and suspects efficiently and humanely.
