Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn, accompanied by Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung, met the affiliated departments’ staff at the multimedia hall of the Community Centre in Taunggyi Township yesterday.

First, the Union Minister said different ethnic nationals are residing in Shan State and the Shan State government is also carrying out the development programmes. Meanwhile, the departmental staff should adopt proper media ways aiming to succeed in these operations and share knowledge with the public regarding these works.

The government employees should be loyal to the nation and people, and participate in development programmes with their skills. Today, the media industry plays a key role, and it should be applied effectively. Unscrupulous persons spread misinformation and disinformation to mislead the people and so the department staff should fight against such fake information. The ministry also circulates the true information via various online platforms like television, newspaper and radio, and all should make efforts for the public.

The state chief minister explained the regional development programmes, training courses for the public at the Community Centre (Taunggyi) and media development training for IPRD staff.

The Union Minister made proper instructions and presented cash prizes.

At noon, Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn visited the Shan State Buddhist University in Phayaphyu Ward of Taunggyi and paid homage to Rector Sayadaw Professor Dr Dhammasami (Oxford Sayadaw).

During the visit, he observed the library of Shan State Buddhist University, and the preservation of books, publications and ancient treatises.

The Shan State Buddhist University is the very first Buddhist University in Shan State established following the teachings of the world’s earliest university Nalanda University (5th-12th centuries) and Dhamma Cariya and Samanekyaw, the Pariyatti heritage of Myanmar.

Founder Oxford Sayadaw Dr Dhammasami makes efforts to establish an international Buddhist University in Myanmar as a secretary of the International Association of Buddhist Universities and the International Association of Theravada Buddhist Universities.
