UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit trade are continued effectively by the law.
On 19 and 20 December, the combined teams impounded an unregistered motorbike worth K400,000 in Maubin Township, six unregistered motorbikes valued at K2.9 million in Hinthada, Myaungmya and Maubin Townships, industrial materials and consumer goods valued at K258.07 million without official documents from 11 containers at the Asia World Port Terminal container checkpoint. The action was conducted under the Export-Import Law and Customs procedures.
On 22 December, 28.482 tonnes of illegal teak worth K12.71 million was impounded in Ottarathiri Township. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported 13 arrests on 19, 20 and 22 December, seizing illegal goods worth approximately K274 million.
