The German Embassy in Myanmar has announced the launch of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (EUCPM) to establish a humanitarian connection between Europe and Myanmar.
The embassy statement said that Germany is actively working with experienced international partners to provide the necessary assistance to the victims on the ground following the earthquake in Myanmar on 28 March, and will continue to provide additional assistance as the situation evolves.
The European Union provided an initial €2.5 million in emergency aid and activated the Copernicus EU Earth Observation tool to assess the damage and monitor the ongoing crisis.
Germany, the largest contributor to the European Union’s humanitarian system, supports international humanitarian organizations such as the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (UNCERF), the Myanmar Humanitarian Fund (MHF), and UNOCHA.
Through these contributions, Germany will ensure that essential relief supplies, such as medical care, shelters, food and clean water, reach those most in need of relief following the earthquake.
