DEPUTY Minister U Than Aung Kyaw of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Eco­nomic Relations, Eminent Per­son (EP) of Myanmar attend­ed the Second Meeting of the High-Level Task Force on the ASEAN Community’s Post-2025 Vision (HLTF-ACV) which was held in Bangkok, Thailand on 23 -24 June 2022.

Deputy Minister for For­eign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia Dr Chem Widhya and High-Lev­el Representative of Malaysia Ambassador Dato’ Zainuddin Yahya co-chaired the meeting. Eminent Persons and High-Lev­el Representatives from the ASEAN Member States, the Deputy Secretary-General of the ASEAN Secretariat and the representatives participated in the meeting.

At the meeting, Eminent Persons gave guidance on the report of the First Joint Work­ing Group (JWG) to assist the work of the HLTF-ACV. They ex­changed views and discussed the Modalities for Stakeholders’ Consultation, the Core Elements of ASEAN Community’s Post- 2025 Vision and Strengthening ASEAN’s Capacity and Institu­tional Effectiveness.

In his intervention, Depu­ty Minister U Than Aung Kyaw highlighted that the proposed core elements of the ASEAN Community’s Post-2025 Vision should be in line with the objec­tives and principles of the ASE­AN Charter. He also mentioned that based on the findings of midterm reviews, some char­acteristics of core elements of the current vision 2025 are still relevant and should be retained, and some emerging issues due to the geopolitical and econom­ic contexts, future pandemics, digitalization, climate change, also should be incorporated in the new elements of the Post 2025 Vision. He also stressed that ASEAN should be a more united, inclusive and responsive community in dealing with ex­ternal partners by strengthen­ing the ASEAN Centrality and ASEAN-led mechanism.

The senior officials, the rep­resentatives of Myanmar for the ASEAN Political and Security Community Pillar, Economic Community Pillar and Social and Culture Community Pillar also attended the meeting.
