A Myanmar delegation led by State Administration Council Member, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo attended the 2nd Digital Economy Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held in Tianjin, China from 9 to 12 July.
The forum included a ministerial-level closed-door meeting, open sessions, thematic discussions, and expert lectures from Tianjin universities. On 10 July, General Mya Tun Oo joined other international delegates at a welcome dinner hosted by Mr Liu Liehong, Minister of China’s National Data Administration.
In his remarks at the dinner, General Mya Tun Oo highlighted both opportunities and challenges in implementing the digital economy and stressed the importance of international cooperation in overcoming these challenges. He reaffirmed Myanmar’s commitment to actively cooperating with SCO members in developing the digital economy.
Before the dinner, Myanmar’s delegation held cordial discussions with the Secretary-General of Tianjin Municipal Committee and the Mayor of Tianjin.
At the forum’s opening on 11 July, Chinese Vice Premier Mr Ding Xuexiang and other senior officials delivered addresses. On the occasion, General Mya Tun Oo stated that the digital economy is transforming societies and business operations, becoming a vital artery for future development. He emphasized Myanmar’s aim to build an inclusive, secure and robust digital economy for national benefit.
He called on SCO member countries to jointly address digital economy challenges and build a trustworthy and resilient digital future. Ministers from SCO countries also shared updates on their national digital transformation initiatives.
More than 600 delegates participated in the forum this year. As part of the event, the Myanmar delegation visited the Smart Zero-Carbon Container Terminal and Binhai New Area Museum on 9 July, the Tianjin City Planning Exhibition on 10 July, the G7 Connect Company on 11 July and Fit Testing Technology on 12 July to observe the application of AI, big data, and IoT technologies.
The delegation returned to Yangon on the afternoon of 13 July.
