At the auditorium from the main building of MRTV, LED animation was screened to launch the 79th anniversary of MRTV. Staff from MRTV performed dances with the song titled “Peaceful Myanmar”. A video clip titled “State Media Which is Striving for the sake of the State and the People” was presented.

The Vice-Senior General pressed the button to launch the MRTV Entertainment Channel of MRTV, Mahar HD channel in addition to 12 TV High Definition (HD) channels in Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw (Pyinmana) and Sagaing (Mandalay) through MRTV DVB-T2 system, and posting of MRTV Radio Application online.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Senior General recounted that at the 76th Anniversary Celebration, Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing opened the MRTV Diamond Jubilee Museum and launched MRTV News Channel and MRTV-DTH, showing his emphasis on the State-owned media.

Similarly, he retold that during the 77th-anniversary celebration event, the ‘MRTV News Channel’ was able to broadcast through the reserved studio, and a new ‘MRTV News Channel Studio’ was commissioned into service.

The Vice-Senior General added that the Ministry of Information has transmitted the initial DVB-T2 (Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial) system in 18 TV channels in high definition (HD) and upgraded to transmit 11 HD channels. Moreover, the Direct to Home (DTH) system, which previously broadcasted seven channels, has now expanded to broadcast 19 channels.

At the 79th anniversary ceremony, he continued to say that MRTV expanded its DVB-T2 system and broadcasting capabilities. Initially, broadcasting was done on 18 channels, but it has now been expanded by adding one more channel, the new “MRTV Entertainment Channel (me),” which is now available in HD quality. The broadcasting in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, and Mandalay cities, which was previously in Standard Definition (SD), has now been upgraded to three High Definition (HD) channels. Among these, one channel has been allocated for Mahar TV, and it was launched today.

Currently, he noted that MRTV is seen to be striving to implement reforms as part of the Ministry of Information’s transformation, in line with the new, youthful, dynamic, and innovative national media model.

At present, the Vice-Senior General highlighted that various domestic and foreign entities are engaging in efforts to sow discord, create divisions, and incite hatred among ethnic people through propaganda, misinformation, and terror acts. In particular, malicious media outlets are spreading false and misleading news, as well as rumours, which pose a significant danger to the country. Therefore, the Ministry of Information, along with MRTV and other relevant departments under the ministry, must continue their efforts as the State media to ensure the non-disintegration of the Union, perpetuation of sovereignty, and work for the benefit of the nation and the people.

He emphasized that MRTV acknowledges that its former employees have diligently fulfilled their duties in different eras while striving to serve the nation and the people. Furthermore, it urges the new generation of MRTV employees to continue carrying out their responsibilities with dedication to ensure the rapid peace, stability, and development of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, as well as its long-term sustainability.

The Vice-Senior General underlined that to be professional in broadcasting and to ensure that the programmes aired are engaging to the public – appealing to people of all ages, from young to old, and easily understandable and memorable – it is necessary to study international news broadcasting practices. By doing so, weaknesses can be identified and transformed into strengths, allowing for continuous improvement.

The Vice-Senior General underscored that MRTV aims to become the fourth pillar of Myanmar, serving as a nurturing platform for media professionals, artistes, and skilled practitioners in the country. Like a vibrant garden in full bloom, it strives to gain the trust and reliance of the people while working diligently to provide service and contribute to the betterment of the nation.

The Vice-Senior General presented K7.5 million as a cash award for the commemorative ceremony to Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn who returned a commometive medal to the Vice-Senior General.

He presented awards to outstanding service personnel from MRTV for their excellent performances in workplaces and international competitions.

The Vice-Senior General and party enjoyed the entertainment of artistes from the Fine Arts Department, MRTV and Myawady Entertainment Troupe and outsider artistes to the accompaniment of the national orchestra, the State traditional orchestra and a modern band.

They viewed round news studios, broadcasting rooms, Convergence News Room, telecasting of MSME Promo in Myanmar and ethnic languages, testing AI technology, and recording processes of a play at the recording studio. He had lunch to mark the 79th Anniversary of MRTV together with MRTV staff. He also visited the MRTV Diamond Jubilee Museum.

On 15 February 1946, Rangoon Radio began broadcasting under the name Burma Broadcasting Services (BBS). On 1 November 1980, it transitioned to regular television broadcasts as a colour TV channel. Moreover, Myanmar Radio, Thapyay Radio, Myanma Radio (broadcasting in English), and programmes in 17 different ethnic languages are also being broadcast.

The public can now watch and listen to high-quality programs with clear visuals and sound through the DVB T2 system, which is currently broadcasting on Myanmar’s voice and television channels. Starting today, a new Mahar HD television channel has been added to the 18 channels, including both the channel’s own and related channels, all in HD quality.

Furthermore, the MRTV DTH Platform, which includes both State-owned and private television channels, is currently broadcasting a total of 19 TV channels. Among them, the MRTV Entertainment Channel, which is dedicated to entertainment programming, has been expanded and launched. In addition, the MRTV Radio App, which allows for exclusive radio listening, has also been launched.

As of today, MRTV which began in 1946 to deliver news, share knowledge, and provide entertainment, has celebrated its 79th anniversary. It has continuously evolved, making significant advancements, and remains firmly established as a major State-owned media outlet.
