UNION MINISTER for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye held an online coordination meeting for the implementation of the National Strategic Plan for Youth Policy (2020-2024) on 29 January.

At the meeting, the Union Minister said the policies and strategies for the development of youths are systematically formulated and implemented since the development of the youth sector is important for the country’s future development.

The Myanmar Youth Policy was formulated in 2016 and approved in 2017. The National Strategic Plan for Youth Policy (2020-2024) was released in December 2020. The Government formed Youth Affairs Committees in Nay Pyi Taw Council, respective states and regions and coordinated with relevant governments, NGOs and INGOs and allocated funds in the last five years in order to implement the Strategic Plan. He continued a total of 16 sectors related to the youth development will be carried out as implementation of the Strategic Plan.

The sectors include Education, Health, Drugs and other hazards, Sports and Recreation, Job opportunities, Business, Politics, Literature, Art and Culture, Research, Science and Technology, civics and Good Citizenship, Resource Use and Environmental Protection, Peace and Security, Gender Equality and Human Rights.

Regarding the education sector which is an important sector for youth, he said the Ministry of Education is formulating the National Education Strategic Plan (2021-2030) and will include opportunities for youth participation and will be implemented effectively.

He added the need to continue implementing the projects included in the Strategic Plan in accordance with the COVID-19 regulations without waiting until the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination. He also added the importance of the strength of the youth in establishing a truely democratic nation and the patriotism of all ethnic nationalities in implementing the youth development activities.

He said to cooperate with relevant Nay Pyi Taw Council and states/regions governments in implementing the National Strategic Plan (2020-2024) with the lead of the Myanmar Youth Affairs Committee.

The meeting also discussed the activities of the six priority sectors to be carried out in the first six months of the 2020-2021 FY, the formation of necessary district and township youth committees, obtaining land for youth centres, working closely with departments and access to funding for youth affairs committees.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister, the Permanent Secretary, Director-General, officials from the Ministry, Social Welfare officers from Nay Pyi Taw Council and respective regions and states and youth representatives from the Youth Affairs Committee.
