Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U T Khun Myat and Members of Parliament received vaccination against COVID-19 before the start of the first regular session of the third Hluttaw at the Hluttaw Building in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr Myint Htwe, Deputy Minister Dr Mya Lay Sein and officials came to observe the vaccination programme for the MPs.

Head of the Nay Pyi Taw Public Health Department Dr Myat Wunna Soe said, “Pyithu Hluttaw MPs are vaccinated today. The swabs of the MPs who were receiving vaccination against COVID-19 were tested two times – the first test on 23 January when they arrived in Nay Pyi Taw and the second test on 28 January. Those who tested negative for COVID-19 in those two times are vaccinated now”.

“Before administering vaccines, we first measure their blood pressure, body temperature and blood oxygen level. If needed, they have to see the doctors. We administered vaccines if they are well. The MPs have to return to their rooms only after 30 minutes of the vaccination and if they are safe. Necessary medical covers were provided at their hostels,” he added.

More than 3,000 people were vaccinated in Nay Pyi Taw. The effects of the COVID-19 vaccination were being monitored. No signs of hypotension and cardiac problem were found. Only they felt a little bit unwell such as physical pain, slight fever and aching. Out of the more than 3,000 people, about 600 people reported that they felt a little bit unwell.

“Two things are to be considered if a new vaccine was administered to the public. The first one is its quality and effectiveness, and the second one is its safety. According to our experience, the safety of this COVID-19 vaccine is good. Therefore, people don’t need to worry about the safety of the vaccine,” he said.

“During the 24 hours after receiving the vaccines, if body pains are felt, it is suggested to take the medicines like paracetamol and cetirizine. During that time, it is suggested to eat regularly, drink a lot of water, have a lot of Vitamin C, and sleep enough,” he added. A total of 315 Pyithu Hluttaw MPs were vaccinated yesterday, and 160 Amyotha Hluttaw MPs will be vaccinated on 30 January. Relevant Hluttaw Offices already distributed personal protective equipment for COVID-19 to the individual MPs.

Staff and employees who will be working at the Hluttaw sessions were also vaccinated against COVID-19.
