The Myanmar delegation, led by Deputy Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr Wah Wah Maung, Myanmar’s Lead of the ASEAN Geoeconomics Task Force, attened the inaugural meeting of the ASEAN Geoeconomics Task Force, which was held virtually on 16 May 2025.

The task force members exchanged views on the regional economic landscape, current trade policy developments, and envisioned future actions for the ASEAN region in response to evolving global trade dynamics.

The Deputy Minister highlighted the key challenges and opportunities faced by ASEAN Member States due to the shifts of current global geoeconomic and trade policy changes, as well as benefits and risks, the potential initiatives and areas for strengthening collaboration among ASEAN Member States. She underscored for enhancing information exchange and collective ways forward in the region.

With the approval of the Special Meeting of ASEAN Economic Ministers virtually on 10 April 2025, the ASEAN Geoeconomics Task Force was established to assess the risks and opportunities from the current global trade shifts and submit the policy recommendations to ASEAN Economic Ministers. The Task Force is composed of two representatives from each ASEAN Member State (AMS), one at the Deputy Minister level and one Expert representing non-governmental perspectives.
