State Security and Peace Commission Member and Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Kyaw Swa Lin received the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar, Mr Abhay Thakur, at the Bayintnaung Villa in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.
During the meeting, they discussed the friendly relations between the two militaries and ways to strengthen bilateral ties further, noting that Myanmar and India are good neighbours. They also exchanged views on prospects for enhanced cooperation between the two armed forces in ensuring security, stability and the rule of law in border areas, as well as on expanded cooperation in military training and mutual exchanges. In addition, they discussed Myanmar’s adherence to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, which it adopted as one of the three original signatory countries, and conditions for promoting development following the successful holding of multiparty democratic general elections in Myanmar.
After the meeting, the State Security and Peace Commission member and Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) and the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar posed for a group photograph together with attendees.
Also present at the meeting were senior Tatmadaw officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) and the Indian Defence Attaché to Myanmar, Colonel Jaswinder Singh Gill.
