Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by Commission Secretary and Joint Executive Chief General Ye Win Oo and the Yangon Region Chief Minister, inspected the construction of the Myanmar Art Centre (Yangon), meeting international standards, in Insein Township, Yangon Region, yesterday afternoon.
At the temporary briefing hall of the centre, Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn reported to the Senior General on the background history of implementing the international-level art centres to accommodate music and theatrical performances in Yangon and Mandalay in accord with the guidance of President U Thein Sein in the first term of the democratic government, suspension of these projects in the second term of the democratic government due to various reasons, plans to implement the project with the designs for the centres to portray Myanmar culture, and further implementation of the projects.
In his response, the Senior General said that it is necessary to continue developing the Yangon Art Centre in accordance with its original objectives. In doing so, internationally advanced setting-in arrangements, lighting and sound effective facilities should be systematically planned and installed. The Art Centre should be built to a standard capable of hosting and presenting opera performances. The continued development of this Art Centre reflects the State’s emphasis on preserving and further advancing Myanmar’s cinematic, theatrical, and musical arts.
The Senior General inspected the construction site of the centre and gave guidance on further implementation processes to officials.
As the construction projects for these internationally advanced art centres were halted during the tenure of the second democratic government, artistes were delayed by about ten years in having opportunities to showcase Myanmar’s cinematic, theatrical, musical and other arts. At present, these projects will resume rapidly to preserve and further develop Myanmar’s cinematic, theatrical, musical and other artistic fields.
