THE opening ceremony of the 18th Flower Festival of the National Kandawgyi Park in PyinOoLwin, Mandalay Region, was held yesterday.
It was attended by State Security and Peace Commission Member Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, Union Ministers U Mya Tun Oo, U Min Naung, U Khin Maung Yi, Dr Charlie Than, Dr Myo Thein Kyaw and U Myo Thant, UCSB Chairman U Soe Min Oo, Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Myo Aung and his wife, senior Tatmadaw officers, departmental officials and invitees.
In his opening speech, the Mandalay Region chief minister stated that the Flower Festival is being held with the aims of encouraging people to value and take pride in the long historical heritage of the National Kandawgyi Park, to improve public understanding of the importance and benefits of botanical issues, to promote the knowledge of the public and support the regional socioeconomic and tourism industry. The National Kandawgyi Park, which was established as May Myo Botanical Garden in 1924, marked its 100th anniversary in 2024, and the commemorative event was held grandly. He continued that the flower festival held in the garden of PyinOoLwin, a Landmark of Myanmar, supports the tourism industry and socioeconomic status of locals.
The Union minister and party cut the ceremonial ribbon to inaugurate the 18th Immersive Flowers Festival.
The Union minister and party watched the entertainment programmes, and presented flower bouquets and cash prizes to the artistes, and also observed the park.
The festival will be from 6 December 2025 to 4 January 2026.
