Myanmar Press Council

Announcement 4/2021

21 June 2021

1.While paying the emphasis and undertaking the State’s stability, the rule of law and community peace and tranquillity by the four estates, the Myanmar Press Council released the announcement on 10 June 2021 for the media not to publish and broadcast false news that would be growing conflicts amongst the people.

2. However, it was found that some local news media, which were revoked of their media licences, some international news agencies and some embassies were publishing and broadcasting false information about the incident of Kinma Village in Pauk Township of the Magway Region on 15 June 2021.

3. Such misinformation and disinformation spread by internal and external news media as well as international organizations are contradictory to international media ethics and journalistic provisions stipulated in the Myanmar News Media Law. It is also obviously detrimental to Myanmar’s peaceful transition process.

4. It is considered as synchronized actions that some news agencies and some embassies are intentionally spreading such false news so as to make pressure upon Myanmar by the world organization that is steering towards international solidarity and cooperation amongst nations.

5. Such doings may cause not only implicit interference in the sovereignty of Myanmar but also can affect regional and international peace. Thus, it is hereby announced that Myanmar Press Council strongly condemns such doings.
